<p>This year&#8217;s conference promises an array of educational opportunities including national and international speakers, point of care ultrasound workshops and Kate Flynn and poster presentations. Additional opportunities include the Foundations of Echocardiography course in Cork on Friday November 7th</p>
<p><strong>Kate Flynn Competition</strong></p>
<p>The Kate Flynn Medal 2025 will be awarded at the conference. As per usual Kate Flynn criteria, applications are invited for submission of any presentations of interesting cases or case series related to Intensive Care Medicine. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to deliver an oral presentation of no more than 7 minutes duration.</p>
<p><strong>Guidelines for Kate Flynn Abstract Submission:</strong></p>
<p>The presenter should submit an abstract as a word document—Max 250 words and structured as background, case presentation, and conclusion.</p>
<p>Abstracts may include relevant case reports or case series. Cases should be original, including why the case should be reported, and the essential implications or message for the Intensive Care Community. Please indicate on the abstract submission if it is for the Kate Flynn prize or the poster prize.</p>
<p>Please note the closing date for submissions of abstracts is Friday October 10th 2025.</p>

<p>The BASIC course is a short course, held over 2 days, which covers essential and fundamental aspects of Intensive Care and is held twice a year. The course is designed as an introduction to Intensive Care for doctors coming to work in the ICU for the first time but is also suitable proved popular with senior ICU nurses. The course consists of course manual, brief clinically-based lectures, skill stations, e-learning and pre- and post-course tests. The course works on a cascading model with local instructors delivering the content after appropriate training.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland, Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine of Ireland and the Intensive Care Society of Ireland are pleased to announce that an ICU4U2 webinar will take place on Saturday 4th September 2021.</p>
<p>This meeting is free to attend and will cover the covid-19 pandemic thus far with a forward looking approach to healthcare in the future. The meeting will follow on from the ICU 4 U commemorative charity cycle where teams from around the country will cycle to Dublin to raise money for charities supporting people affected by the COVID 19 crisis.</p>
<p>The meeting will include a Kate Flynn Presentation Prize, Scientific Session and a Public Session.</p>
<p>This will feature a number of key speakers who will address issues of interest to clinicians and the public. This will be a virtual meeting and there will be a facility to submit questions to the speakers via the moderator.</p>
<p>Those wishing to participate in this sessions will have the opportunity to pre-register for the conference, later this week.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Frontline workers throughout the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland will cycle to the Memorial Gardens at Islandbridge Dublin this September to remember all those who have lost their lives to Covid-19 and to raise €150,000 for those impacted by the secondary challenges of the pandemic.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The ICU4U2 event will see small teams of ICU doctors, nurses, paramedics, ambulance drivers, other healthcare staff plus some gardai depart from each of the six nationwide University Hospitals in Cork, Belfast, Galway, Limerick, Sligo and Waterford on 2-3 September.  They will pass through as many community hospitals as possible en route to Dublin, collecting white roses along the way to represent lives lost to the virus.  Then over 7000 white roses will be displayed at the gardens on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th September representing each life lost in Ireland to the COVID-19 pandemic. </span><b></b></p>
<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true">The charities to benefit are:</span></p>
<ul>
<li>ALONE (a charity that helps our more vulnerable Elderly population)</li>
<li>AWARE (a charity that supports people with Mental Health problems)</li>
<li>Breakthrough Cancer Research (a charity that supports improvements in the care of cancer patients)</li>
<li>Aware NI (supports people with Mental Health problems in Northern Ireland)</li>
</ul>
<p><b>The event takes place as follows:</b></p>
<p>Date: 2nd &amp; 3rd of September<br />
Where: Teams of cyclist would leave from their hospitals in Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Galway, Sligo and Belfast and cycle to Island Bridge in Dublin. The cycle will be over two days from Southern cities with an overnight stops. Northern Irish period would be over 1-day leaving from Belfast.</p>
<p>There will be Six cycling options.</p>
<p>All routes will be marshalled with backup support, and refreshment stops provided.</p>
