Frontline workers will remember lives lost to Covid-19 and aim to raise €150k for those impacted by the pandemic at ICU4U2 memorial event


Frontline workers throughout the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland will cycle to the Memorial Gardens at Islandbridge Dublin this September to remember all those who have lost their lives to Covid-19 and to raise €150,000 for those impacted by the secondary challenges of the pandemic.

 

The ICU4U2 event will see small teams of ICU doctors, nurses, paramedics, ambulance drivers, other healthcare staff plus some gardai depart from each of the six nationwide University Hospitals in Cork, Belfast, Galway, Limerick, Sligo and Waterford on 2-3 September.  They will pass through as many community hospitals as possible en route to Dublin, collecting white roses along the way to represent lives lost to the virus.  Then over 7000 white roses will be displayed at the gardens on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th September representing each life lost in Ireland to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The charities to benefit are:

  • ALONE (a charity that helps our more vulnerable Elderly population)
  • AWARE (a charity that supports people with Mental Health problems)
  • Breakthrough Cancer Research (a charity that supports improvements in the care of cancer patients)
  • Aware NI (supports people with Mental Health problems in Northern Ireland)

The event takes place as follows:

Date: 2nd & 3rd of September
Where: Teams of cyclist would leave from their hospitals in Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Galway, Sligo and Belfast and cycle to Island Bridge in Dublin. The cycle will be over two days from Southern cities with an overnight stops. Northern Irish period would be over 1-day leaving from Belfast.

There will be Six cycling options.

All routes will be marshalled with backup support, and refreshment stops provided.
